Emergency Alert System: This is Only a Test (So Don’t Freak Out…)

Last week I posted about the first nationwide test of the EAS, which is taking place at 2pm EST today. The test may last over three minutes and there has been growing concern about the test; specifically, about those unaware of the test and it causing some anxiety. There’s concern that the TV message might not indicate specifically that it’s a test, so be sure and spread the word.

The US Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission and the National Weather Service will be conducting the test. The test will be broadcast via TV and radio. This will be the first nationwide test of the EAS to ever be conducted. It’s designed to alert the public of emergency alerts and warnings regarding weather threats, child abductions and other emergencies.
