The low pressure area that entered the Gulf of Mexico yesterday, and is presently moving across northern Florida on its way into the Atlantic, will deliver impressive early March snowfall amounts to the Deep South. Maximum accumulations are expected in the western regions of North Carolina where up to 8 inches in Asheville is possible and perhaps slightly higher accumulations are possible in the higher elevations near the largest city in western North Carolina. This low pressure area will not, as is often the case, hug the U.S. Coastline in true nor’eastern fashion. Instead, the low will travel into the Atlantic remaining well offshore, though gusty north and northeast winds with rain and snow will continue to be in the forecast for many East Coast locations including Washington, D.C. (rain/snow tonight and tomorrow), Philadelphia (rain/snow tonight and tomorrow morning; rain tomorrow afternoon), New York City (rain tonight; rain and snow tomorrow), Boston (snow late tonight through Thursday).
