Weeks of rain across the southern regions of China as well as southern Japan have lead to saturated grounds more prone to flooding and flash flooding; today’s rains are not helping the situation at all. With another 1-3 inches of rain expected today for Japan, Korea and portions of eastern China residents are preparing for more high water. In the mountainous regions of Japan, another 1-to-2 feet of snow is expected.
Like the jet streams over the United States, the Subtropical or "southern stream" jet has been quite active over Asia for the past several months, with storm after storm moving across China and into the Pacific. These same storms continue across the Pacific, adding abundant moisture to their "punch," and eventually reach California where the heavy rains, flooding and mudslides continue.
