Long-range: More Snow for the South?

[Monday, 2/15, Update: Since posting this blog on Friday, there have been changes. While the Pacific moisture is still expected to track eastward across California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, the cold outbreak is now not expected. The result: Rain? Yes. Bitter cold and snow? No.]

It’s starting to look like another outbreak of Arctic and/or Canadian air will begin pushing into the southern states late next week, while Pacific moisture tracks eastward across Mexico and then the Gulf of Mexico. If snow (or sleet or freezing rain) is to be the result, the cold air must be in place as the moisture arrives. Meaning, literally, timing is everything. As this system is still quite some time away our confidence — at least for now — is low.
