Hurricanes and the Calendar

Though the six month Atlantic Hurricane Season ended 17 days ago, hurricanes and cyclones have little respect for the calendar. Even as Cyclone Laurence (photo) finally begins to weaken over the northwest coast of Australia (note the lack of organization with the clusters of thunderstorms) today, winds yesterday were in the 125mph category. Not only that, but almost three weeks ago the strongest cyclone (Super Typhoon Nida) of 2009 was ravaging the open waters of the Pacific and earlier this week Cyclone Mick was well off the northeast coast of New Zealand.
